Sun City West · 85375 · Maricopa County
Sun City West is roughly 16,900 homes built as an age-restricted community, and the bathrooms in it were designed for a version of the owner that was twenty-five years younger. The step-over tub in a 1980s guest bath is the single most common reason a person stops using half of their own house.

A flat entry with nothing to step over. A floor that is safe to stand on wet. Blocking in the wall so a grab bar is anchored into structure rather than screwed to a panel. A seat where it belongs. Controls you can reach from outside the water. Everything past that is decoration.
Grab bars come in brushed brass and stainless. That is not vanity — a bar that looks like hospital equipment gets taken down before it ever gets used, and then the bathroom is exactly as dangerous as it was.
Build era here runs from the late 1970s into the 1990s. Expect a fiberglass tub-shower module, a raised curb, and supply lines that may be galvanized or early CPVC in the older phases. Galvanized is worth knowing about before the wall opens, because it changes what a shower valve swap actually costs in labor — and we would rather tell you that at the walkthrough than from inside the wall.
Recreation Centers of Sun City West and the individual associations have their own rules on contractor hours, gate registration and dumpster placement. We register and schedule to those rules. The alternative is a crew sitting at a gate at 6:45 in the morning being told to come back.
Plenty of these houses run on a winter schedule. Decide in season, build out of season — the work is easier and you are not living in it.
The same build can be the nicest room in the house: seamless panel walls in stone or marble finishes, frameless low-iron glass, warm metal hardware. Safe and good-looking are not two different projects.
Every seam in a shower wall is somewhere water gets in and mildew comes back. A seamless solid-surface panel has none of them — no grout lines to scrub, seal, or redo in four years. You wipe the wall down and you are finished.
It also installs faster, and the result does not depend on whether one setter had a good week. This is the only way QC Showers builds a shower. It is a deliberate choice, not a limitation.
John Montiel, QC Plumbing — Arizona ROC #344196, licensed, bonded and insured. A shower is a plumbing job with a finish on it, so the person who sells it should be the licensed plumber who installs it. There is no crew you have never met and no franchise call centre between you and the work.

A flat entry with no curb to step over, a floor you can stand on wet, blocking in the wall so a grab bar is anchored into structure instead of screwed to a panel, a bench or a seat where it belongs, and controls you can reach from outside the spray. Everything else is decoration. Grab bars come in brass and stainless — they can look like hardware rather than hospital equipment, and that matters more than people admit, because a bar that is ugly gets removed before it gets used.
We will not tell you it is covered, because we would be guessing about your plan. What is true: Medicare does not pay for remodeling, and there is no Arizona accessibility tax credit. Some long-term-care plans, VA programs and county programs do help, and every one of them has its own rules and paperwork — ask your case manager directly what they will authorise. We can give you the scope in writing so you have something to hand them.
Yes, and this is most of what we argue about with customers. A grab bar has to be anchored into blocking in the wall to be worth anything — that is a framing decision made before the wall closes, and it is the single most common thing left out of somebody else's job. Done right, in brushed brass or stainless, it reads as hardware.
